Commercial Cleaning Scope Builder
Turn a completed site walkthrough into a structured, professional cleaning scope — areas, tasks, periodic work, exclusions and requirements, ready to review, edit and share.
What is a commercial cleaning scope of work?
A scope of work is a clear, structured description of what will be cleaned, how often, and what falls outside the service. It's the document that turns a verbal understanding into something both your team and your client can rely on — the gap between "clean the office" and a properly scoped job is where disputes and scope creep tend to start.
What should a cleaning scope include?
- • Client and site details, and an overview of the service type and frequency
- • Every area, with the specific tasks it needs
- • Periodic or additional work that happens on a longer cycle than the routine clean
- • Site-wide requirements — consumables, product approvals, induction, PPE
- • Access and service conditions relevant to delivering the work
- • Clear exclusions — what isn't included
- • Any notes or assumptions the scope is based on
Routine cleaning vs periodic services
Routine tasks happen every visit — vacuuming, wiping surfaces, emptying bins. Periodic services happen on a longer, separately agreed cycle — carpet extraction, floor treatments, high-level cleaning, external windows. Mixing the two together is one of the most common causes of confusion in a cleaning contract, so the Scope Builder keeps them in clearly separate sections.
Why clear exclusions matter
What isn't included matters just as much as what is. Naming exclusions explicitly — rather than leaving them as an unstated assumption — protects both you and your client from disagreements later. The Scope Builder never assumes exclusions on your behalf; you choose which ones apply.
How the walkthrough connects to the scope
If you've already recorded a Site Walkthrough this session, the Scope Builder reads the areas, floor types and tasks you selected and converts them into professional scope wording automatically — you review and adjust, rather than typing every room from scratch. Pricing stays separate in the Quote & Profit Calculator.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to complete a walkthrough first?
It helps, but it isn't required. If you've completed a Site Walkthrough this session, the Scope Builder converts it into a draft scope automatically. If not, you can choose Create Scope Manually and build one from scratch.
Does this create a legal contract?
No. The Scope Builder produces a clear, structured description of the cleaning work — what will be cleaned, how often, and what's excluded. It is not a legal contract and doesn't replace legal or professional advice for your service agreements.
Can I edit everything the tool generates?
Yes. Every heading, task, frequency, requirement and exclusion is editable. You can also add custom tasks, add or remove areas, and combine similar areas together.
Does the scope include pricing?
No. The Scope Builder deliberately doesn't include pricing. Pricing is handled separately in the Quote & Profit Calculator.
How do I share the finished scope?
Switch to Preview Scope for a clean, client-facing view, then use Copy Scope to paste it into email, Word or your own quoting system, or use Print / Save as PDF from your browser.
Is my scope saved anywhere?
It's stored temporarily in this browser session only, the same way the Walkthrough and Calculator work. It isn't saved to a Service Margin Lab account, and closing the tab or starting a new scope clears it.
